Polk County Film Initiative logoPolk County Film Initiative (PCFI) is a 501C3 organization in Tryon, NC. PCFI began in 2013 with a one year film-making course for youth, titled the Next Generation Film Project. In 2014, PCFI launched its first annual fall film festival, the Tryon International Film Festival (TRIFF).

To date, more than 4,300 attendees have participated in TRIFF. Funding for PCFI activities comes from donations, sponsorships, and ticket & merchandise sales. In 2022, the majority of funding for TRIFF came from area business sponsorships. A total of 85% of PCFI ‘s total income was infused back into the local economy thru payments to organizations, vendors & businesses for space & equipment rentals, permits, merchandise, printing, contract labor, food, event supplies and more.

PCFI is guided by its active, volunteer Board of Directors and supported by dozens of PCFI volunteers annually. Its Executive Director and Education Coordinator and volunteers collectively support the implementation of identified goals and strategies. In 2023, PCFI will seek grants and additional support to increase its capacity, impact, partnerships and education offerings for both youth and adults as TRIFF enters its 9th year as a vibrant, welcoming catalyst for creative and economic development.
